One of Australia’s most innovative and creative salons approaches hair as a medium to create art. Marie Cain reinvents classic styles, adds new textures, and plays with structures and surfaces. The results are striking, even haunting, looks that do what only great art can: they get under your skin.
 
Hair does not pretend to be anything else. Cain’s no-gimmick approach yields an almost raw expression, even in the most exquisite shapes. Surfaces are not smoothed out but allowed to be their natural selves. Fuzzy texture is encouraged and literally teased into the hair. Movement is expansive, but specific structures can be tiny, like mini braids or crinkles.
 

Just as with the shapes, the hair colors are drawn from a natural yet expressive palette, often featuring hues of varying lightness brought together to create an additional layer of visual intrigue.
 

Crinkled Spikes

 
Extremely crinkled hair, ideally naturally so, is styled to high volume reminiscent of the famous afro look but with even more texture and movement. Individual sections of hair form long, pointed shapes while the rest of the wiry tresses provide a translucent, misty structure.
 
The length is uniform around the head, allowing the hair to form a halo-like circle or resemble the filaments of an exotic flower once airborne.
 

Textured Hive

 
Back-combed, wrapped, and piled up high with determination, this look is more than just a nod to the famous styles of the late 50s and 60s. It’s updated and celebrates hair in its most natural form and texture.
 
Flying hair is not sprayed into sleek obedience; it is encouraged to maintain its raw naturalness, paired with elegance and a futuristic style.
 

Cornrow Braids

 
Elaborate cornrows are braided from the forehead straight back and down to the nape. These mini-French braids take time to create but outlast other styles and are unmatched for extraordinary, exotic looks. Ask Bo Derek.
 
This version is distinguished by the intrinsic aura of “wild” hairs that surround the precise handiwork.
 

Sumo Girl Look

 
Eclectic elements borrowed from classic looks work together in eccentric beauty. From the masculine short sides with indicated sideburns to the short, very French fringe and the sumo-like knot of hair high on the crown, all seem to be opposites but harmonize fashionably.
 
The muted dark blonde hair color completes the elegant and avant-garde understatement.
