Hairstyles have been undergoing a true metamorphosis. These transitions are a result of the specific influence of major celebrities and media focuses. What had become a trend toward long flowing locks was abruptly redirected by the dramatic cropping of Victoria Beckham’s locks into her signature Pob (a concave bob). The new direction was affirmed by media darlings Katie Holmes and Natalie Imbruglia, who also went for a makeover and sheared their longer locks for shorter, sassier, and chic bob styles.

Even more stars have furthered the trend by taking short hair one step more toward the scalp: celebs like Rihanna and Kristin Kreuk have decided to expose their ears with cute, short crops.

Because of these influences and the new trends in shorter styles, New York master hairstylist Christopher Naselli has taken it upon himself to create a collection of hairstyles exclusively for Hairfinder.com. Naselli says, ‘The whole collection, in my eyes, was something that I wanted to be a bit masculine yet very feminine; kind of a throwback to the ’60s and the ’80s; with disconnected heavy perimeters and a softer interior. If that makes any sense.’

It does make sense, and the looks are strong: bold angles and cut lines with a touch of sixties mod and eighties pop. The looks are forceful yet feminine, simple yet detailed and defined. The collection takes a single model and transforms her look, step by step, from a neck-length bob to a gamine crop. The collection illustrates the drama and metamorphosis that lies in potential in every woman.

Christopher Naselli is the owner and operator of one of the most respected salons in New York City: Salon Forty East Third. He has more than 15 years of professional experience within the hairstyling industry, primarily impacting New York and Los Angeles.

Here is the lovely Jennifer with a simple, neck-length bob. Her warm auburn hair is fine and it lays smoothly along the sides of the face and in the fringe area. The bangs are cut horizontally with a gently softened corner turn.

The sides of the bob are angled and textured along the bottom edge with a slight razor-cut or point-cut technique to soften the blunted hairline, yet leaving the finished cut with a clean and defined shape.

In the second stage of our makeover, the length of the bob is lessened, raising the bottom edge of the hair to lip level and simultaneously adjusting the shape of the silhouette and rebalancing the focus on the face.

The bottom edge of the hairstyle is layered to create a taper and a softness. The bangs are further textured to soften the edge framing the eyes.

Exposed Earlobes

This is a more dramatic shift, as we can see a rise in the perimeter lines reducing the overall length. The earlobes are exposed beneath a beveled edge of a pseudo-bowl haircut. The fringe is also shortened and shaped into a hard-edged curve that follows the brow line.

These changes create a weighty line at eye level, drawing focus to the eyes and broadening the upper portion of the head.

In our final stage of transition, we have Jennifer in a gamine, cropped pixie-cut. The layers are choppy and deeply textured, giving an edgy look to the style. The look is decisive and somewhat shocking, but playful and exotically alluring all the same.

Once again, the eyes are the primary focus in this hairstyle, and the very short haircut dramatically opens the face.
