My favorite part about this versatile style is that is can be worn sleek or teased in the crown area depending on preference. The many layers create fun texture as well. This particular platinum blonde flatters this client’s low maintenance needs by camouflaging her white/grey hair.
Any advice for someone considering it?
My first piece of advice would be to find a stylist who listens and knows what they are doing. If you have fine hair, the stylist may easily put too many layers in making for even finer appearance. If you have thick hair, the stylist will have to do a little more cutting and texturing to get that fun, piecey look.
It is important to always start with a good hair care regimen starting with a color safe cleansing shampoo and a lightweight conditioner. Always put heat protection before styling and use a control hairspray.

Any advice for someone considering it?
Clients who have fine hair want to find a hair extension specialist who specializes in fine hair. The reason I say that is because not all techniques used for extensions are great for fine hair. Make sure you’re going to somebody qualified.
There are a variety of products that I highly recommend for clients with fine hair as well. I love Bumble & Bumble, as they have an entire line formulated for fine hair.
I love doing fine hair because I also have fine hair. I would never suggest something that I wouldn’t use on my own hair.

How would you describe this look?
To me, this thin haircut and color combo says classic, lived in, and simple! The color is seamless. I free painted the balayage pieces for brightness mostly around the face and to accentuate the cut. The cut is a great length for someone dipping their toe into the short hair water and to make thin hair look thicker!
My favorite thing about this long bob or lob is that it’s very versatile. There are so many different ways to style it. It can still be pulled back into a cute ponytail when you’re headed to the gym. Or, throw your hair back into an updo or half-up for a formal occasion. You can wear it sleek and straight with a headband for work or during the day and then it’s super easy to throw some beach waves in for a night time look.
Any advice for someone considering it?
The blunt line I created in this cut is great for someone with thin or fine hair because it gives the appearance of more hair throughout the baseline. I also added some interior layering for movement. The style that I created looks best on a round or oval shaped face. When the hair hits just above the color bones it accentuates the features of these face shapes.
To style this cut at home I suggest a mousse for blowdrying that will give your body and hold – I’m a big fan of Mousse Bouffant by Kerestase. I also suggest a texture product and heat protectant for beach waves. I love Nectar Thermique by Kerastase and Texture Wave by Shu Uemura.

The key to maintaining this look, particularly for finer hair, is a regiment of nourishing products that are not heavy in nature. I recently have been loving Davines, an Italian all-natural brand. It all starts with the shampoo and conditioner. I like to keep moisture in the hair without making it heavy. The best shampoo/conditioner combo I’ve found for this is Momo from Davines. This combination keeps the locks from getting too dry from the summer heat while still maintaining volume.
For styling, I managed frizz and obtained smoothness with a few drops of Oi Oil. Where most oil-based serums can weigh down thin hair, Oi Oil has a Roucou Oil base and offers frizz control and cuts dry time without leaving the hair limp. I pair this with Volu Root Lift Spray, also a Davines product. Volu Spray gives your hair the structure needed at the root to achieve bouncy, voluminous results.
What type of client would you recommend this look for?
This look would be perfect for the client that wants a trendy style but doesn’t always have the time to get back to the salon every six weeks. Balayage provides clients with all of the trends, but very little upkeep. The look itself is meant to look like it’s growing with your natural hair. That being said, this is not the best method for blending gray.
The choppy layers take the weight off the ends of the hair, giving the root the ability to have some natural lift and providing a nice “wash and go” look. The length can be adjusted based on the client’s preference for ponytails. The entire look is completely customizable to each client. That is what makes this style perfect for clients with finer/thinner hair, on-the-go parents, or just college students looking for lower up-keep costs.

Don’t be afraid of the product! The main product used for styling in this cut is a volume powder. This style can be effortlessly blown dry with a texture spray (think: sea salt spray or something light and gritty), and when dry something as light as a powder can be used for styling if used liberally. Believe it or not – most of my clients don’t use enough!
I love a pixie. I think a cut like this can suit any lifestyle based on its ease and complement any face shape. Thick or fine hair can have a pixie cut – it just comes down to the cut and styling products used!

On towel dried hair, start with a texturizing spray or cream. Blow dry the hair using your fingers, tousling back and forth until dry. This technique will add volume and “grit” to the hair. At this point, you can be finished, but for a more textured finish you can add a hair paste or clay product. I like recommending a matte or low shine finish for this look.

I truly recommend this look for any client willing to go for it. People who have a creative side or someone who has an outgoing personality would be best suited for this look. To recreate short haircuts like this one, you will need to apply a wet volume product before rough drying the hair. My go-to is ANTI.GRAVITY cream by KEVIN.MURPHY. When the hair is completely dry, you will need a 1-inch iron (GDH is my favorite). After the curls have cooled, I spray a light texture spray to piece out the curls. My favorite right now is BEDROOM.HAIR. The smell is amazing and it works like a dream.

The product line I suggest is R+Co. It is a luxury haircare line that is sulfate, paraben, gluten, and cruelty-free. The products within the mentioned line that I used for this client were Chiffon which is a lightweight mousse that adds shine and light hold, in combination with Jackpot which is a stronger hold product that adds fullness and texture. I finished the look with a little Trophy which goes on dry and adds texture and shine.
This look is suitable for many hair types, but those are the specific products I would recommend to a thin-haired client with low-medium density. Suitable products are key to maintain any hairstyle.
What type of client would you recommend this look for?
I truly believe that there is a bob for everyone. Intentional asymmetry can be extremely flattering as it can make a client’s face appear more symmetrical through contrast. Especially when it comes to thin hair, the reduction of length is creating the illusion of more fullness in their fine hair.
Not to mention, different versions of this look have remained relevant since the cropped bobs of the 1920s. As long as you have the right products and home care routine, this look is constantly fashionable and fairly low maintenance.

To recreate this look at home, you will need a blowdryer, a medium-sized round brush, a flat iron, a volumizing mousse, and a light hairspray. I begin by applying a volumizing mousse throughout and then rough drying until hair is about 75% dry. I then blow dry using the round brush, working with two-inch sections starting at the back and pulling at a 90° to 180° angle to achieve volume. Flat iron as needed and finish with a light hairspray.

This is not a low maintenance, get up and go hairstyle. While the actual styling process may not require a lot of time, it does require some product and the use of a round brush and flat iron. My client has hair that’s medium-fine and wanted a style with movement, but wanted to keep as much length as possible. This look is softly layered, creating barely there layers on the top crown portion of the head that are blended into the bottom so that we don’t take out too much weight. I love that she can have movement and texture without sacrificing density and length.
For her color, we gave her bright highlights with an iridescent golden tone and a creamy tan lowlight. The overall effect is a buttery, creamy and rich vanilla tone. This creates contrast and brightness (especially around her face) without washing her out. I also love the versatile bang that is cut short and textured to sweep to the side. It creates a styled look even on the days she wants to pull her hair into a ponytail.
What products do you recommend to maintain and recreate this look?
To achieve this look, I would absolutely recommend using Olaplex during the service and maintaining with the take home mask. It will keep her hair strong and healthy, especially in the summer months. I also recommend a good heat protection spray like Redken Pillow Proof Primer Spray and Pureology Style + Care Volume Blow Dry Lotion. For added volume at the root, use Pureology Clean Volume Spray.
What type of client would you recommend this look for?
I recommend this look for anyone that “wants layers but doesn’t really want it too layered”, and anyone with thin or medium density hair. It is also great for all the busy moms out there that love an easy maintenance look. The textured, side swept bang allows you to quickly pull the rest of the hair up without losing “style” to the look.

How would you describe this look and what is your favorite thing about it?
I would describe this look as a tousled bob with a heavier, halo-shaped fringe. Nothing about it is hard. The edges are all softened by point cutting, which gives it a lot of playful personality through texture and color. The color effect also gives the illusion of volume because it incorporates a slight shadow root, baby-light dimension, and sun-kissed blonde tips.
What products do you recommend to maintain and recreate this look?
As an Aveda Artist with an Aveda fan-based clientele, I choose AVEDA everything! I used all Aveda color to prep her hair and accentuate the cut I knew we were doing. The products we used to style with were Aveda Brilliant Damage Control to prep, Aveda Voumizing Tonic at her base to style her thicker hair, and Aveda Air Control Hairspray during and after hand styling and twisting some waves into her hair with the blow dryer.
What type of client would you recommend this look for?
This specific look works great for someone with a heart or oval shaped face. If your face is more round or square, I would recommend a different choice for the fringe area, perhaps a side swept fringe, a micro fringe, or no fringe at all instead of the rounded one I used here. Lauren’s hair is actually very thick, so we chose this look to use her thickness to an advantage. She looks great with so much texture because, without it, her hair can tend to lay very heavy and take over her face instead of enhancing it!
For someone with finer hair, I love to customize a look like this with some kind of fringe or layers that eliminate a strong parting in the top because it gives the appearance of more density. It’s also super easy to style and works great for someone who likes to use little heat, but is open to the product as a tool to make their cut and color shine bright!

Blunt, one length haircuts are increasing in popularity and seem to be defined as the new hair cutting trend. It certainly is a bold way of making a statement! Inspired by classic designs of haircutting, the shape of this haircut evokes confidence, sharpness and independence in a woman’s character. It shifts the burden of complexity away from the hair and onto the woman herself. Its appeal is eye catching and will be sure to keep heads turning back for a second glance of admiration.
As balayage highlighting continues to revolutionize today’s world of hair coloring, it is also interesting to see how classic forms of haircutting tie together with modern hair color trends. My favorite thing about this look is that it evokes elegance and youthfulness in a woman’s appearance. It often involves cutting a couple inches off the length of your hair as you will need to have your shortest layers from the previous cut reach the overall hair length. The result of this is immediate healthier fuller hair that feels silky soft and has mesmerizing movement.

Depending on hair texture, achieving this look will differentiate. For women with naturally straight hair, I wouldn’t recommend using anything more than a heat protector before flat ironing as adding more product will only increase oil build, leaving your hair heavy and limp. However, if you have wavy or curly hair and want to smooth out your hair for a sleek, pin straight look, you may want to add hair smoothers to facilitate smoothing out and taming frizz before blow drying hair.
Bear in mind that regardless if your hair is straight, wavy or curly, a blunt one length cut does not need to be styled straight to have its appeal. Hair can still be styled without changing its natural state and still looks very flattering. In regard to maintaining the color, I recommend a color-safe shampoo as it will increase the longevity of the color and prevent it from fading.
What type of client would you recommend this look for?
Determining the right length for your face shape is key to pulling off this sharp-edged style. It is worth noting that if you have an oblong shaped face, a one length blunt cut will make your face appear more narrow. However, incorporating a fringe will solve the problem as it will balance out the length of face shape and is actually quite complimentary to the design of the cut.
Furthermore, dense hair types may benefit from a bit of softening if only at the ends to break it up, but this is more a matter of personal taste. When deciding on color choices for this technique, choose tones that are opposite from your skin’s undertones. So, those with warm undertones might opt for a cooler color, and vice versa. The degree of importance varies from hair color to hair color, but it’s a good guideline to remember.

Since this is a medium length haircut with no bangs, it can pretty much look good on all face shapes. However, I recommend oval, long, and diamond since more weight is toward the bottom, really balancing it out with the top of the head to get rid of elongating where you don’t need to.
This is such an easy look to style and anyone can wear it. Toss up to go to the gym or jump out of the shower to get to work. It is an overall perfect style for the busy everyday person!

This is my take on a modern shag. My favorite thing about it is the fringe! I think it looks perfect on her.
What products do you recommend to maintain and recreate this look?
To maintain this look, you would probably need a fringe trim every three to four weeks. For products, I used Davines’ Dry Texture Spray, then ran the Oí Oil through her midshaft and ends. I didn’t use a hot tool (other than a blow dryer) and styled her as I was drying with my fingers (no brush needed).
What type of client would you recommend this look for?
I think the shag is really a great cut for any face shape. It’s both versatile and edgy! It works well with straight or curly hair, so your texture won’t be an issue. I think the bangs are great for someone that has a shorter forehead because helps in creating the illusion that you don’t!

How would you describe this look and what is your favorite thing about it?
This look is very soft and versatile. It has soft, point cut layers with some disconnection so that the bottom length looks solid. The balayage is soft and warm without being brassy. This look is great because the upkeep is minimal.
What products do you recommend to maintain and recreate this look?
I’m obsessed with Sebastian’s Whipped Cream and Dark Oil. Of course, I also using a professional shampoo. For thin hair, I love shampoos like Abba Color Care and Moisture. Wella’s Color Care shampoo for thin to normal is great as well. I use a medium-sized round brush to blow it smooth with a light wave at the ends.
What type of client would you recommend this look for?
I recommend this look for anyone who wants something that looks effortless and is low maintenance. It’s great for most face shapes because you can always bring up the angles around the face. The brightness in the front is youthful and soft and it grows out beautifully.
