How would you describe this look?

A Wonderful Waterfall Braid Updo

29 Gorgeous Braided Updo Ideas For That Special Event

@annabelle_radiate60

Q&A with style creator, Annabelle Znachko
Stylist @ Radiate 60 in Fishers, IN

How would you describe this look?

This elegant updo is a graceful waterfall braid gathered into a low loose side bun that gives a look of simple refinement.

What I personally love about this style is how simple yet stunning it is. I am a believer in less is more, and my favorite looks are ones that are classy and put-together yet full of personality, whimsy, and fun.

Any advice for someone considering it?

This look is best with medium to long thick hair but can also be done with the addition of extensions in cases of fine hair. Tools and supplies needed are a fishtail comb, elastics, and bobby pins.

A texture or setting spray may help give the hair some grit to better hold style, and I always recommend at least day old hair (as opposed to freshly washed) with any style.

A lightweight oil can be used to tame down any flyaways and of course, a good hairspray to finish.

Waterfall braids are very versatile and can be perfect for any casual or formal event.  They are easy, simple, fun, and put-together. This particular client wore the style with a long evening gown for an annual formal fundraiser.

Elegant Braided Bridal Updo

29 Gorgeous Braided Updo Ideas For That Special Event @hair_by_harriet_harvey

Q&A with style creator, Harriet Harvey
Freelance Hairstylist @ Harriet Harvey Hair in East Midlands, UK

How would you describe this look and what is your favorite thing about it?

This is a simple but effective style that is beautiful for bridal hair, but would also be suitable to wear with a casual wardrobe.

What tips or products do you recommend to recreate this look?

I used a heat shield protection spray as I texturized the hair using root crimpers to add more density. I also used texturizing dust on the root area to add more thickness and volume. After styling, I finished off with a light spray of Bed Head Maxed-Out to set the style, followed by a light spray of dry wax hairspray.

What type of client would you recommend this look for?

This look is perfect for clients looking for both formal and casual styles. It is particularly suitable for brides and special occasions. It suits most face shapes and works better with hair that is past the shoulders or longer. Medium thickness to thick hair is best.

Low Bun with Textured Braids

29 Gorgeous Braided Updo Ideas For That Special Event @natashia_bristleandbones

Q&A with style creator, Natashia
Hairstylist / Blonde Specialist / Owner @ Bristle & Bones Hair Studio in Camp Hill, QLD

How would you describe this look and what is your favorite thing about it?

I would describe this look as a low bun with textured braids. My favorite thing about thing about it is that it is a versatile look that would be perfect for any formal event.

What tips or products do you recommend to recreate this look?

I recommend using products that create texture in the hair. I have used Ocean Mist by Sachajuan to prep the hair before styling and Badland Dry Shampoo Paste by R+Co to add texture after curling, along with Light and Flexible Hairspray by Sachajuan.

What type of client would you recommend this look for?

This look is perfect for clients with long hair past their shoulders to achieve a nice full bun in the back. One-length hair is ideal as opposed to layered.

Daring Braids

29 Gorgeous Braided Updo Ideas For That Special Event @mcqueens_house

Q&A with style creator, Allison Turner
Freelance Hairstylist @ GlamSquad DC in Spotsylvania, VA

How would you describe this look and what is your favorite thing about it?

Ok so I would describe this as sophisticated boho, or sleek but daring. My favorite thing is the “starburst” braid under the fishtail. It was inspired by @braids.by.anna and @solfletter.

What tips or products do you recommend to recreate this look?

My tips to help recreate this would be to take your time, use a light and flexible wax or paste, and take a step back every now and then to look at the style from different angles.

What type of client would you recommend this look for?

I recommend this look for normal to coarse hair. Fine hair can be more fragile while braiding, but everyone’s hair can handle different things. Braiding on a client with low hair density can be a challenge. Use a texturizing powder like Sexy Hair Powder Play to get some lasting volume.

The client that could love this would be on the edgy side, or just down to have some fun. It might be perfect for someone that wants to try something a little crazy, but still look polished.

Fishtail Braided Crown Updo

29 Gorgeous Braided Updo Ideas For That Special Event @iamcristinacolon

Q&A with style creator, Cristina Colon
Hairstylist @ Atelier Hair Salon in Orlando, FL

How would you describe this look and what is your favorite thing about it?

I would describe this style as a fun and simple way to spice up your everyday look! What I love about it is that it’s actually really simple and anyone can do it.

What tips or products do you recommend to recreate this look?

The products I recommend to complete the fishtail crown look are the Oribe Swept Up Volume Powder for texture and grip, and the Oribe Fiber Groom Elastic Texture Paste for helping spread the braid while maintaining control.

What type of client would you recommend this look for?

I recommend this look to a client that is on the go, but wants to still have a pulled together look no matter the occasion. What’s great about this style is that you can basically do it on all types of hair since it is essentially just two braids that you pin together.

Sophisticated Swirls

29 Gorgeous Braided Updo Ideas For That Special Event @erinstonerstylist

Q&A with style creator, Erin Stoner
Executive Stylist @ Soleil 7 Salon & Spa in Tallahassee, FL

How would you describe this look and what is your favorite thing about it?

I would describe this look as sophisticated and pretty, but with a little edge. My favorite thing about this look is how romantic and soft the swirls are from the back, but from the side it is sleeker with a little poof in the crown to give a more effortless style.

What tips or products do you recommend to recreate this look?

I absolutely love my R Session curling wand to prep the hair, followed up with Aveda’s Dry Shampure used from the ends up to the scalp to create some grit and volume in clean hair. Lastly, set everything with a liberal amount of Aveda’s Air Control hairspray. It provides a light hold that will keep flyaways tamed and not weigh the swirls down.

What type of client would you recommend this look for?

I think this look can be used with any age, for a party or wedding, prom, or even just a night out on the town. It works best if you’re comfortable having your hair swept away and off of your face. Medium textured hair that is at least to the collarbone is ideal for this style.

Asymmetric Braided Updo

29 Gorgeous Braided Updo Ideas For That Special Event @riothairdressing

Q&A with style creator, Tori Fuller
Wedding & Event Hair Specialist / Session Stylist @ Riot Hairdresssing in United Kingdom

How would you describe this look and what is your favorite thing about it?

This is an asymmetric braided updo with height, texture and a messy bun to create a soft but modern look. The blonde color makes this style really pop. I find braids look best on blonde tones as you can really see the detail. I love the texture and relaxed feel. It’s the perfect little twist on a classic updo.

What tips or products do you recommend to recreate this look?

Sea salt spray is a favorite product of mine. It is a versatile and easy product to create texture on slippery hair, especially if dried into the roots with a hairdryer. I also add a little powder at the roots to aid in lifting.

It’s so important to prepare the hair properly. I find it is easier to braid with a clay on well-prepared hair that has a strong blow dry first. This ensures the roots are lifted, otherwise the braid sits too flat.

What type of client would you recommend this look for?

This style is great for thick and unruly hair to create a quick, tamed and polished look. It is ideal for a night out or smart function. It is really versatile for all face shapes as you can adjust the volume accordingly. This style is perfect modern bridesmaid hair!

Gorgeous Braided Updo for Black Hair

29 Gorgeous Braided Updo Ideas For That Special Event

@rochellerandall

Q&A with style creator, Rochelle Randall
Hairstylist & Barber @ Hair by Rochelle Randall in Costa Mesa, CA

How would you describe this look?

I gave her a natural part, evenly collected hair on both sides to create two inverted French braids and connected them at the back. Once I created the two braids, I slowly pull them apart allowing them to expand and give more volume and dimension. Then, I collected the rest of the hair and braided it all together twisting it around to create a bun shape. Using the bobby pins, I connected the braid to her head and pulled out more pieces.

Any advice for someone considering it?

If you are considering this kind of design, I would highly recommend making sure you have a great product to support your end goal. I use Paul Mitchell styling products and tools to create my up styles.

Depending on the texture of your hair from straight to curly, the product is your best friend and using the right tools to create your end goal is important. If you were to come into my salon, I would usually create this on dry hair. It takes around 10 min. This style is a quick easy up style for someone who might not know how to curl well as the braids will create a dimensional finish.

Sweeping Fishtail Braid Updo

29 Gorgeous Braided Updo Ideas For That Special Event @ray.voltage

Q&A with style creator, Ray Hornback
Owner / Balayage Stylist @ Voltage Hair Salon in Fort Collins, CO

How would you describe this look and what is your favorite thing about it?

This is a fishtail braid upstyle that I did on a bridesmaid. I love how it sweeps from the left side of her head over to the right so that it will look its best for photos. It also has a great balance and the hair accessory looks perfect.

What tips or products do you recommend to recreate this look?

You need to make sure you know how to braid well so that it comes together smoothly. You can deconstruct it after braiding if you like the messier look. I love using Kevin Murphy Easy.Rider on my hands to smooth the hair as I braid. I also like using Kevin Murphy Doo.Over spray for finishing the style.

What type of client would you recommend this look for?

I think braided styles are really good for girls with thick hair. It’s a great way to keep an upstyle together all day, plus it adds a lot of interest.

Relaxed Texture Braided Bun Updo

29 Gorgeous Braided Updo Ideas For That Special Event @ewhairandmakeup

Q&A with style creator, Emily Williams
Hairstylist / Makeup Artist @ Emily Williams Hair & Makeup in Bristol, UK

How would you describe this look and what is your favorite thing about it?

This look is a relaxed, textured bun with a braid.

I love how it looks very soft and natural, but by adding the simple braid across the back it gives the updo that little something extra.

What tips or products do you recommend to recreate this look?

I definitely suggest a little bit of backcombing when creating this look. Lightly backcombing the hair before you style adds volume and texture.

I also recommend using a dusting powder such as Schwarzkopf Osis Dust It. This is my hero product for all of my relaxed updos. I don’t want the hairstyle looking too neat, so this little product adds texture and volume, helping to keep strands in place even on the softest of hair.

What type of client would you recommend this look for?

This is a great style for someone who has relatively thick hair. If you have a slightly wider/rounder face, I would keep the sides pulled back smoothly. If you have more of a longer shaped face, I would simply backcomb the side sections to add some volume before you pin them back.

My client had lovely blonde tones in her hair which looked stunning when plaited. I think this style is a perfect daytime look, but could also work for brides and bridesmaids. Adding a few simple hair accessories would take this style from day to night quite beautifully.

French Side Braid Updo

29 Gorgeous Braided Updo Ideas For That Special Event @hairandmakeupbykaitlynrose

Q&A with style creator, Kaitlyn Rose
Hairstylist / Makeup Artist @ Bellamia Hair Salon in Billerica, MA

How would you describe this look and what is your favorite thing about it?

I describe this as a pulled apart French braid with a loose side bun. I love how it can be worn casually or as a formal style.

What tips or products do you recommend to recreate this look?

I recommend curling hair loosely with a light hairspray, then creating a deep side part. Create a French braid on the side with more hair. Spray the whole braid with a dry shampoo or a texture spray to help give it volume. Pinch and pull on pieces you would like to accentuate. Next, create a low ponytail and split into three sections. Wrap the sections backward around your finger and secure them around base of ponytail to create a donut-like shape. Pull from the inside of the bun to expand it.

Don’t worry about pinning every piece of hair that may poke out as it adds to this look. Set everything with a strong hold finishing hairspray.

What type of client would you recommend this look for?

This updo is best for medium to long hair. It looks great on blonde or highlighted hair since the braid really shows off dimensional color.

I recommend this for diamond, heart or oval shaped faces. This updo can be done really quickly, so it’s great for someone who doesn’t have a lot of time on their hands to be in the salon.

Gorgeous Multi Braided Updo

29 Gorgeous Braided Updo Ideas For That Special Event @harrietgracehair

Q&A with style creator, Harriet Grace
Stylist @ Anthony Talbot London in Neutral Bay, NSW

How would you describe this look and what is your favorite thing about it?

I would describe this look as a braided upstyle that looks soft and undone. My favorite thing about this style is that it really works well on shorter hair as the braids keep it all together. I love being able to create something that the client doesn’t think is possible.

What tips or products do you recommend to recreate this look?

When you are trying to create a softer, bigger braid, you need to do a three-strand braid as normal, but don’t braid right to the end. You then start from the bottom upwards, pulling the hair up and out slightly on each segment of the braid. This gives it a much softer feel.

I don’t like to overdo it with too many products. Just be sure to use a firm hold hairspray once you have finished!

What type of client would you recommend this look for?

This style is very wearable for someone attending a wedding or a school formal. It also works beautifully on a bride with a veil slipped in at the base.

As I said previously, this style works well on short hair and also long hair. It’s very versatile. It will suit all face shapes by just varying how much height you have on top. If your hair is highlighted or has balayage, that really makes the braid pop too!

Pulled Apart Fishbone Braid Updo

29 Gorgeous Braided Updo Ideas For That Special Event @stormarts

Q&A with style creator, Tjona
Hairstylist @ True Style Hair in Boston, MA

How would you describe this look and what is your favorite thing about it?

This is a pulled apart fishbone braided updo that is absolutely perfect for this client’s soft strawberry blonde hair color. We chose this updo for the client because she has long, thick, silky hair that just will not curl with any hot tool. This style offers us a chance to pull everything up without having to prep it with curling iron work.

What tips or products do you recommend to recreate this look?

I used a little bit of texture powder (Puff Me) in the braid as well as the rest of the hair to help with a little grip.

What type of client would you recommend this look for?

The braid not only gives the updo a great visual texture contrast from the smoothness of the client’s hair, but it also offers a way to create structure and control. I finished the look off with a Kenra hairspray.

Effortless Braided Updo for Brown Hair

29 Gorgeous Braided Updo Ideas For That Special Event @color_me_mags

Q&A with style creator, Maggie Bouchard
Stylist @ Amore Hair Design in Foxboro, MA

How would you describe this look and what is your favorite thing about it?

I would describe this look as a textured and effortless upstyle. Something like this is perfect for a bridesmaid or even a laid back bride who wants to dance the night away without worrying about her hair!

My favorite thing about these kinds of styles is that they really are flattering on any face shape and they don’t feel too severe. I think it’s really important that each woman feels like herself, even when she is all done up. If you feel comfortable, you’re going to look your best!

What tips or products do you recommend to recreate this look?

My favorite products to re-create this look are dry shampoos or texture sprays. Before I even started curling and pinning, I prepped her whole head with a texturizing spray. One of my favorites right now is Texturiza by Unite!

After prepping the hair, I figure out where we want the braid to sit and I establish the braid. After that, I used my 1-inch Marcel iron to curl her whole head to create the natural textured look. I like the curls to be on the tighter sid, because the more you move them around to style, the more they loosen up and the texture can get lost.

After establishing the height at the crown, everything just gets pinned up, taking vertical sections from the nape to the crown to create the rolled up effect.

What type of client would you recommend this look for?

This look is perfect for someone with shorter and thicker hair. I really feel as though any face shape can rock this updo. It is easily adapted for every face shape by simply adjusting the hair left out in front of the braid. By leaving the hair looser, you can soften a face. By pulling the hair back tight, it creates a more dramatic look.

This beauty’s locks hovered just around her shoulders with a little more length in the front. She had the density to create the full braid while still having plenty to work with for the rest of the style. This kind of style is perfect for the client who is low maintenance, easygoing, and loves texture!

Fishtail + French Braid Updo

29 Gorgeous Braided Updo Ideas For That Special Event @beautybyaudriana

Q&A with style creator, Audriana Yoder-Eufora
Hairstylist and Make-up Artist @ Signature Design Salon and Day Spa in Wyoming, MI

How would you describe this look and what is your favorite thing about it?

I would describe this look as a updo that’s great for day or night. It would also be a good option if attending a wedding. It’s a fishtail French braid that snakes around the head.

My favorite thing about the style is the intricacy. It is truly eye catching! If I saw a woman walking down the street with this style, I would stop and compliment her.

What tips or products do you recommend to recreate this look?

To create this look, I recommend a gel that goes in the hair when wet to help hold the style. It is important to finish with a firm hairspray when the style is complete.

What type of client would you recommend this look for?

I recommend this style for medium to thick hair. Fine hair it wouldn’t look the same. It would also look great on an oval face shape.

Upside Down Dutch Braid Updo

29 Gorgeous Braided Updo Ideas For That Special Event @gina.danielle.raso

Q&A with style creator, Gina Danielle Raso
Stylist / Make-up Artist @ Salon A’vanti in Hammonton, NJ

How would you describe this look and what is your favorite thing about it?

This look is classy but fun! I incorporated a Dutch braid into a messy bun. My favorite part of this look is obviously the braid. Braids are the hottest trend for a lot of my bridal work.

What tips or products do you recommend to recreate this look?

I always start out with a smooth blow dry. For the braid, I often use a texturizing powder, depending upon the thickness of the hair.

To achieve this look, you want to flip your hair over and braid upside down into a high ponytail. For the bun portion, I used a curling iron and pieced each section of hair to create a “messy but clean” bun. I always finish my updos with a shine spray to smooth any flyaways. Right now I’m obsessed with Kevin Murphy’s Bedroom.Hair. It’s a great finish product that provides a flexible hold, touchable texture, and the perfect amount of shine while not leaving it greasy!

What type of client would you recommend this look for?

I feel that anyone can rock this look! This was an updo that I created for a bridesmaid. She wanted a non traditional updo that was classy but fun. My client wanted something with height and volume to distract from her “fuller face.”

This is a look that you can either dress up or down. You can do a traditional bun on top or even a chic topknot! This is an easy look that you could wear to work, out with friends, or even for that weekend “I didn’t try to do my hair” look. It’s all about how you create it!

Simply Elegant Micro Braided Updo

29 Gorgeous Braided Updo Ideas For That Special Event @aheadofstylekm

Q&A with style creator, Kate
Owner @ A-head of Style in Nea Smirni, Athens, Greece

How would you describe this look and what is your favorite thing about it?

I describe this look as very feminine and classy! The great thing about it is that it combines both simplicity and elegance.

What tips or products do you recommend to recreate this look?

I used Volupt spray from Sebastian before curling to give a bit of texture to the hair. The important thing with these kind of updos is for the hair to be manageable, and in order to get this result you need to use a matte powder like Vintage from Alfaparf Milano or a dry shampoo like Drynamic from Sebastian. To finish, I just used some Illuminating Spray from Alfaparf Milano to give a little sparkle to the total look and make it a bit more glamorous.

My tip with this kind of braided updo is to always start from the front and then the whole thing will guide you. Plus, your client is happy from the beginning because you’ve already made her feel beautiful! Don’t be afraid to create different sizes of braids and then combine them all together. This makes the look more natural in the end.

What type of client would you recommend this look for?

This look is perfect for all hair types as long as you prepare the hair properly. This style is better for women with more fine characteristics and oval faces.

It’s an updo that a young and fresh woman could wear with confidence. It’s really the updo that will never be “too much”.

Romantic Braided Updo

29 Gorgeous Braided Updo Ideas For That Special Event @ufirami

Q&A with style creator, Galyna Poczciwinski
Senior Designer @ Ulta Beauty in Milford, CT

How would you describe this look and what is your favorite thing about it?

This look can be both formal and informal. It looks effortless and romantic.

What tips or products do you recommend to recreate this look?

For full braids like this, I definitely recommend a lot of texture. It makes the overall style more lived-in looking. I curled her hair prior to styling. Curls give extra volume and I also used texture spray. My favorite one is Redken Windblown 05.

What type of client would you recommend this look for?

This hairstyle will work great with all face shapes and it’s great for both medium and long hair.

Sweeping Braided Updo

29 Gorgeous Braided Updo Ideas For That Special Event @beautyby_brittanyjean

Q&A with style creator, Brittany Lavoie
Hair Artist and Nail Technician @ Hairaholic Salon in Mansfield, MA

How would you describe this look and what is your favorite thing about it?

To me, this look feels very relaxed and even has a little bit of a boho vibe. I love the imperfect bun and sweeping braid. It’s elegant, yet not too serious.

What tips or products do you recommend to recreate this look?

I always start looks like this with the braid, then I begin curling. This guarantees that I won’t have any wispy ends from my curls poking through the sides of the braid.

To recreate this look, I recommend starting with a very light hold hairspray. I used Kenra #9 to curl first. Then, working with the hair I sometimes use Kenra’s Shine Spray or a little Moroccan Oil on my fingers. Finishing the look, I use a firmer hold spray like Kenra #13.

What type of client would you recommend this look for?

I love looks like this for lighter, finer hair. Fine hair doesn’t always hold a curl for a long time, so starting this look with a tighter curl than desired lets the look “settle” a little as it’s worn. Opting for a more sideswept look is great too for anyone with a more oval face shape. This creates a little asymmetry and softens the overall look.

Easy Braided Updo for Short Hair

Goddess Braid Updo

29 Gorgeous Braided Updo Ideas For That Special Event @gracevanscoder

Q&A with style creator, Grace Vanscoder
Hairstylist @ Beginnings Salon and Day Spa in Hartville, OH

How would you describe this look and what is your favorite thing about it?

I would describe this look at boho chic updo that is suitable for any summer event. My favorite thing about this look is the versatility, and the hippie/bohemian influences that make it look natural and carefree, while still giving a Goddess-like effect.

What tips or products do you recommend to recreate this look?

Recreating this look takes a lot of texture (the more the better). For the braid, I braided a piece of hair from the front and pulled it apart using gripping powder with two fingers to give it a bigger and more dramatic style. I finished with a light hold hairspray to keep the shape, but also keep it from looking hard and cemented.

For thin hair I suggest using a doughnut bun as this will make the bun look fuller and more complete. Strategically pin the curls around the bun, leaving some of the tails out to give a messier appearance.

What type of client would you recommend this look for?

I would suggest this look to someone with shoulder length hair or longer. All face shapes look beautiful with this style because it is natural and you can tighten or loosen it depending on the face shape. This is a spring, summer or fall look that is perfect for weddings. It represents an “I woke up like this” lifestyle. Natural beauty!

Reverse French Braid Updo

29 Gorgeous Braided Updo Ideas For That Special Event @belindahairstylist

Q&A with style creator, Belinda Vangelov
Mobile Hairstylist @ Belinda Vangelov Hair Stylist in Sydney, Australia

How would you describe this look and what is your favorite thing about it?

I love this braided updo! It’s such a popular look at the moment and great for any occasion. I love the texture that the braid creates, especially with lighter colored hair.

What tips or products do you recommend to recreate this look?

The braid starts at the front of the forehead and crosses around the side of the head. It is a reverse French braid where the plait ends up on the outside. I section the hair into two, curl the bottom half with a GHD to give texture and create a chignon to the side, then braid the hair from the forehead across and pin the end of the plait around the chignon. Loosen the hair in the braid to create a softer look .

What type of client would you recommend this look for?

This style works best with thicker hair as you can achieve a thicker-looking braid. Hair with not too many layers helps when you loosen the braid so it still keeps its shape. Lighter hair colors will make the braid stand out, but it really is a great style for all hair colors.

Even though it works best with thicker hair, it can be achieved with most hair types. It is also versatile in that you can change up the front to include all of the fringe, or let some hang down. Strategically placed pins means that it won’t fall out and doesn’t need a lot of hairspray. This is an all around great style!

Ethereal Side Braid Updo with Flowers

29 Gorgeous Braided Updo Ideas For That Special Event @hairbybethany

Q&A with style creator, Bethany Duffy
Hairstylist @ Salon De Moda in North Providence, RI

How would you describe this look and what is your favorite thing about it?

This is a simple updo that is perfect for everyday wear, or elegant enough for a bride on her special day. I love the contrast of the ethereal texture of the hair against the subtle fishtail braid.

What tips or products do you recommend to recreate this look?

Getting the hair to the right texture is the most important step to creating this updo. The texture will allow the hair to look loose, but still allow the hair to hold for hours. I do this by using two of my favorite products Schwarzkopf Osis Volume Up and Schwarzkopf Osis Sessions Label Powder Cloud. A headband is also important because it is used to tuck the hair and achieve the rolled chignon.

What type of client would you recommend this look for?

This look is for everyone. It works with all hair textures (I love this look on curly hair!) and is simple enough to do yourself and wear every day.

Sophisticated Chignon Braided Updo

29 Gorgeous Braided Updo Ideas For That Special Event @miss_nessi_stylist

Q&A with style creator, Vanessa Moran
Hair & Makeup Stylist @ Miss Nessi in Sunshine Coast, AU

How would you describe this look and what is your favorite thing about it?

In a practical sense, we’d refer to this style as a braided low-do, however I tend to describe something like this a little more creatively and refer to is as being an understated, earthy style that is sophisticated and down-to-earth.

What tips or products do you recommend to recreate this look?

Make sure you get a good ‘poof’ around the crown. To get this area looking full, you need a decent amount of backcombing around the crown area. This way you can pull all the hair together firmly without losing body. I’d also suggesting making sure to use a hair tie to first tie the bottom part in place nice and firmly before creating the roll. It’s a lot firmer this way and more comfortable for the client.

Very few specialty products are needed for something like this. Dust-It mattifying powder provides very good to hold the volume that was created with backcombing.

What type of client would you recommend this look for?

This look works excellent for thick hair. Fine hair tends to lack the volume needed to create these three elements volumous crown, low-do, and the braid. Although you could use hair padding if desired.

This look is perfect for the ladies who like to have a soft and feminine style, but who can’t stand having hair near their face or any loose bits flying around. This look is perfect for a windy location!

Classic Updo with Braid Accent

29 Gorgeous Braided Updo Ideas For That Special Event @belezafish

Q&A with style creator, Cassi Bosch
Cosmetologist/Licensed Massage Therapist in Salt Lake City, UT

How would you describe this look and what is your favorite thing about it?

This hairstyle is one of the most commonly requested styles I get for brides here in Utah. It is a classic updo with a braid accent. The best part is that it looks great on most face shapes!

What tips or products do you recommend to recreate this look?

I used Fave4 Thickening Cream as well as Big Sexy Root Pump to give her some thickness and volume while her hair was still damp. While styling, I used L’Oréal Next Day Hair and DesignMe Puff Me powder for texture and volume. I finished with Redken Control Addict 28 hairspray to set the style.

What type of client would you recommend this look for?

The ideal hair type for this style would be mid-length with a medium texture. However, it is such a versatile style that it will work with long lengths as well as fine hair. The client in the photo had really thin, fine hair.
