This client was looking for a change! She had long hair that had been growing for years and suffered from split ends and very tangled tresses. This cut was a fresh start. We did the traditional Deva Cut (a specialized dry cutting technique) to give her curls a new life.

Any advice for someone considering it?
The Deva Curl cut and three-step styling technique is a total game-changer for anyone with texture in their hair. Curly hair needs moisture and particular consideration to different curl patterns to ensure a balanced cut. To get this look, you will need both.
The length of the bob will always depend on facial features and face shape and is tailored to each client. This styling process takes a little more time upfront but will last for days, therefore saving time down the road.
We used Deva Curl No Poo cleanser, One Conditioner, B-Leavin Curl Booster, and Light Defining Gel. This left her curls hydrated, defined and soft.

Any advice for someone considering it?
This is a great haircut for girls with curly hair to make it easy for the parent and child. Curly cuts and products are going to make styling a breeze. I tell all my clients to leave a decent amount of sulfate-free, paraben-free and silicone-free conditioner in the hair, scrunch in the product on soaking wet curls. Scrunch with a t-shirt and air dry!
This is an easy styling method to teach your kids to make the wash day go a little easier.

These 4c curls are very thick curly coils.
The shape is an inverted cut that was cut while wet. Supercurlies shouldn’t get their hair cut while wet to allow room for shrinkage.
Ask your stylist to baby the length so you can control the shape as your curly hair grows out.
What’s your best advice?
If you’re intimidated by this curly cut, do it in winter fall months so weather and humidity aren’t factors. Don’t be afraid to use curl hair products, and lots of them!

How would you describe this look?
I love creating looks for curly hair. The first thing I do is figure out what type of maintenance a client is willing to do from day to day.
I like this cut because it allowed my client to be able to wear a fun, modern, and cute topknot, or wear it down for a softer feel. I love to create cuts that allow my clients to go from look to look.
Any advice for someone considering it?
You should start by having a good cut customized for your specific curl pattern, then select the product that works best with your curls. Curly hair tends to be on the dry side, so don’t forget to hydrate those curls! Always use the recommended amount of product to set the curls in place.
Use a leave-in conditioner to hydrate your curls, then layer in a medium hold gel or mousse to add the control and hold needed for a long-lasting look. Either air dry for a more natural look or use a diffuser to add body and volume. I love to use an anti-humidity or a light working spray to finish. It provides an extra layer of protection to fight frizz and fuzz.
No matter how old you are, a great stylist and a customized cut will always make you feel like a million bucks.

My favorite thing about this look is that it can work for a person with the slightest wave, all the way to the person with the tightest curl!
What products do you recommend to maintain and recreate this look?
Hydration hydration hydration! Curls love moisture, so the more hydrated the hair the better the outcome. For this particular curl pattern, I went right for the Deva Curl Decadence line. This line has the most hydration for the tightest curls. We used the Deva No-Poo Decadence cleanser followed by the One Condition Decadence leave-in conditioner.
For styling, we used the Deva Super Cream right on top of that leave-in conditioner. The key is to apply the product to soaking wet hair so you are not left feeling sticky or crunchy.
What type of client would you recommend this look for?
I recommend this look for any client with a tight curl pattern. It’s perfect for young girls to air dry and go, or for the busy mom to send off her kids and start the day.
Men can Deva too! This cut/styling method can be used by anyone whose hair reacts to humidity.
