How would you describe this look?
The wispy fringe is my favorite part of this hairstyle because it gives a new spin on a classic look! I also love how nicely her balayage grows out and how low maintenance it is. We haven’t lightened her hair in over 5 months. We just use a Redken Shades Eq Demi-Permanent hair gloss in-between balayage services to get rid of any excess warm tones and keep her a neutral sandy blonde.
Any advice for someone considering it?
I would recommend blow drying at least the fringe with a round brush every day to ensure it lays nicely throughout the day. I would also recommend always using a heat protectant while styling to prevent against heat damage. A few of my favorites are Redken Pillow Proof Primer Spray and Pureology Smooth Perfection Lightweight Smoothing Lotion!

If you have thick hair, the undercut and slight layering will help keep it from being bulky. If you have fine, thin hair you can skip the undercut and layering for a more blunt look. I love the versatility of this cut!

If you are considering this look, make sure to ask your stylist if your hairline will work with the shorter bangs, checking for cowlicks.
On this client, I used a straightening cream cocktail with a couple drops of oil. We used a Denman brush and wrap dried the hair to give a straight, smooth look with movement. It is a quick, easy blow dry style. To add curls, you will only need to curl the top section of the head. Make sure to leave the ends of your curls straight and use a wide-toothed comb to brush out the curls to keep the style it up to date!

How would you describe this look?
This look is one of my favorites because it’s bold yet soft. The fringe softens the harsh look of the solid white hair color but also makes a statement of its own. That is actually what I like most about it because it portrays many different styles.
Any advice for someone considering it?
Someone with a small forehead or smaller head, in general, could potentially feel too closed in with such a full fringe. I typically like to put a fringe like this on anyone who has a decent forehead for the hair to lay over.
2. Both this color and cut are high maintenance. The color will need to be touched up every three to five weeks to prevent banding and the fringe will need trimming to keep from getting into the eyes. This fringe is worn long to begin with, so only within a few weeks they will start to be too “in the eyes”.
This hairstyle is not recommended for anyone who can’t have their hair down or who is very active considering hair in the face could be annoying to some. As a stylist and colorist, I couldn’t have my hair in my face because it would constantly annoy me, but some people don’t mind at all!
Overall, this is a high maintenance color and cut, but it is very trendy and fashionable!

I would definitely describe this look as a wispy bang. The rest of the hair will look great in messy waves, or even straight.
My favorite thing about these bangs is that they are so light and easy to work with, especially if you are someone like my client who has never had bangs before. This look allows you to see how you like having bangs. If you don’t end up liking bangs, these wispy bangs are super easy to grow out or simply push to the side. With heavier bangs, the grow-out process can be very annoying!
Any advice for someone considering it?
My advice for clients who ask for bangs is to start wispy. We can always add more bang to give it a heavier look. I also like to leave a few longer pieces on the sides by the temples so on a lazy day, you can just throw your hair up in a cute pony and style your bangs with some cute wispy pieces hanging out.
I don’t usually like any product in the bang area because it tends to weight them down and they get oily faster. I find clean bangs to work best. Make sure the hair is wet when you begin styling to help you achieve a smoother blow dry and a lot less separation. This is especially important if the client has cowlicks or a widow’s peak.
Use a smaller brush for more volume because the bangs will drop, and we don’t want our bangs too flat!

At EmilyFerratoHair in Essendon, we always start with a thorough consultation. If you are a low maintenance person that wants a wash and wear look, this haircut is not for you. This kind of cut and style needs a little bit of TLC every day to achieve the ultimate potential of its design.
If your hair is on the thinner side, it will be more difficult to achieve this look and we would advise an alternative look.
EVO Mane Tamer shampoo and conditioner and Easy Tiger leave-in conditioner are the perfect products to achieve these shiny, glossy results. We also recommend the GHD New Gold Straightener! As soon as you wash your hair, blast your fringe forward with a round brush and a hairdryer, especially if you are in the training stage for your new bangs. The tools you use are very important!

How would you describe this look?
I would describe this look as a soft fringe with long layers. My favorite part of this look is the fringe. It’s cut to frame her face and long enough so she can get some styling versatility. She can sweep the bangs to either side and in a few weeks, grow them into a nice a-line fringe.
The fringe is textured to be light and wispy to give it a more modern look. Adding the fringe to a long layered look was a quick change to a normal routine cut. My client wanted to change up her look but didn’t want to chop her hair off. By adding the fringe to her soft long layers, it changed her look up instantly.
Any advice for someone considering it?
My advice for clients wanting this look is to be aware of how much of a commitment a fringe can be. A fringe is very much a centerpiece of your hair. If there is a kink in them or they are not laying right, they can easily set you out for a bad hair day. Whenever I do give a client a fringe, I try to make them aware that styling them is a must. Very few of us have hair that cooperates effortlessly at all times in all conditions, so I usually give a quick blow dry lesson on how to style their fringe.
Because they require the most effort, I also recommend styling products to make their routine easier. I will recommend a heat protectant if flat ironing is required, or a volumizer for that extra lift and bounce in a fringe. I don’t normally recommend a fringe on someone with a smaller forehead or low hairline because they tend to have the most cowlicks or whirls which can be a big pain to try and work with on an everyday basis. Extremely curly hair is also a red flag for me when it comes to a fringe. If the client is knowledgeable in blow drying and flat ironing, then I have no problem giving them a fringe to their liking.
As far as face-framing, a fringe draws the most attention to eyes and eyebrows, so I try to make clients aware of that as well and make sure they are comfortable with length and thickness. My biggest piece of advice for clients thinking of getting a fringe is please don’t cut them yourself! I’ve heard and seen so many horror stories of self-cut bangs and sometimes fixing them is not as easy as you think. Leave it up to the professionals who can pick up the hair and angle their fingers properly to cut them. The best thing about a fringe is that it’s hair so it does grow back. A fringe is definitely a fun part of haircutting and evolving with each new trend.

Any advice for someone considering it?
For clients considering this look, be ready to style! The bangs can be low maintenance, but I think this look works best for those who are ready to work with them. When styling, I usually suggest sweeping the bangs section back and forth with a round or flat brush to defeat any hard part, then styling them under as usual.
Talking to your stylist is key because sectioning matters a LOT for these. I always start with a smaller section because more hair can be added if they aren’t thick enough. The wispy bangs can be catered to almost any hair type by adjusting the length, thickness, and the specific shape of the section. I think straight/minimally wavy hair types are best for them, however.
I love finishing the styling of wispy bangs with a dry texture spray or a little bit of a aerosol hairspray to hold them in place and give them a textured, lived-in look.

Some advice I would give to anyone looking to change up their haircut with bangs would be to understand that you have to actually style your hair! If you are someone who likes a “wash and wear” look, then bangs probably aren’t for you.
Understand that bang trims will be a thing in your future. Bangs are the first thing you see and notice as they grow out, so keeping up with regular trims is a must to keep them looking fresh.
Not all styles of bangs suit everyone. Angled bangs, wispy bangs, razored bangs, blunt bangs, curtain bangs, etc. will not all look great on the same person. Work with your hair type and take your lifestyle into account to find out what works best for your face shape, your routine, and what is easiest for you to style!
Anyone looking to achieve a messy or tousled look like this needs to use a product. A spray wax or pomade are great for piecing out bangs, layers and texture with any hair type! Some of my favorites are the Unite Texturiza Spray and Bed Head’s Manipulator.

I recommend Redken’s Rough Paste 12 to piece out curls for that undone look, and finishing with Redken Windblown05 for a textured, airy appearance without feeling gunky.
What type of client would you recommend this look for?
Wispy bangs are great for a lot of different hair types! Fine/medium textures tend to be more low maintenance than someone with coarse hair, but it all boils down to how long the hair needs to be for the natural bend of the hair to come into play and how thick of a section you’re taking out for your fringe.
My client, in particular, has a round face shape, so it was important to angle down the edges of her fringe to balance out her face shape and not overwhelm by adding any more width to her appearance. Tweaking small details makes a full fringe possible for a range of different face shapes!
